This year the VSO Roving Ravens, sponsored by Leupold Optics, will again compete in the World Series of Birding, North America’s oldest and best-known competitive birding event. The contest is expected to attract more than seventy teams of extreme birders who will spend 24 hours searching out species to add to their tally. A Message From the Roving Ravens
We are studying obscure “alternate” calls and pouring over maps. We will be spending the week prior to the event scouting New Jersey from Cape May to the New York border; from the Atlantic Ocean to the Delaware River. We are pursuing the elusive 200 species day. Check the summer issue of this newsletter to see how we did.
But this event is not just about chasing birds, or friendly competition. Our objective is also to raise money to help underwrite the cost of publishing Virginia Birds, the VSO’s quarterly journal of ornithological sightings. For this we need your help.
